Advanced astrophotography – fully automated and without polar alignment
The DWARFLAB DRACO combines the ease of use of a smart telescope with features previously found mainly in advanced astrophotography rigs. Its fast 90 mm optical system, cooled 50-megapixel CMOS sensor, integrated autoguiding and motorised sensor rotator enable detailed astronomical imaging with individual exposures of up to 300 seconds.
DRACO is controlled through the DWARFLAB app. Automatic alignment, GoTo object finding, tracking, image capture and image processing make it suitable for ambitious beginners and experienced astrophotographers alike.

Fast 90 mm optics for deep-sky imaging
The compact catadioptric optical system offers a 90 mm aperture and a focal length of 340 mm. Its fast f/3.8 focal ratio collects plenty of light, making DRACO particularly suitable for imaging galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. Dedicated modes are also available for the Moon, Sun and planets.
The folded optical design combines the larger aperture and longer focal length with a comparatively compact, portable housing.
Rotating CMOS sensor instead of complex polar alignment
One of DRACO’s most distinctive features is its motorised main-camera rotator. While the telescope remains upright on its alt-azimuth mount, the CMOS sensor rotates to match the apparent movement of the sky. This compensates for field rotation during image capture.
Long individual exposures can therefore be recorded without conventional polar alignment. The image orientation can also be adjusted through the app to suit the selected target and composition. An equatorial mode remains available for users who prefer an EQ setup.
Up to 300-second exposures with autoguiding
The integrated guide scope continuously monitors the telescope’s tracking and applies real-time corrections. Combined with the rotating sensor assembly, it enables individual exposures of up to 300 seconds while helping to maintain sharp, round stars.
Cooled 50-megapixel main camera
DRACO’s main imaging camera uses a 1/1.3-inch OmniVision OV50Q40 CMOS sensor with a resolution of up to 50 megapixels. Active cooling reduces the sensor temperature and helps minimise thermal noise during long deep-sky exposures.
Waste heat from the cooling system is redirected towards the optics to help prevent condensation on cold or humid nights.
Additional wide-angle camera
A second camera featuring an OmniVision OV50E40 sensor provides wide-field imaging at resolutions of up to 50 megapixels. It can be used for Milky Way images, star trails, landscapes and nature photography.
The telephoto and wide-angle cameras can operate simultaneously, capturing both a detailed view of the main target and its wider surroundings. Available resolution and field of view may vary depending on the selected mode.
Two versions: Standard and SHO
DRACO Standard
The standard version includes:
- Astronomy or broadband filter
- Dark-frame filter
- Hα/OIII dual-band filter with a 13 ± 3 nm bandwidth
- Integrated OD 5 solar filter
This version is suitable for galaxies, star clusters, emission nebulae, the Moon and the Sun.
DRACO SHO
The SHO version adds an SII/OIII dual-band filter, providing both Hα/OIII and SII/OIII data for advanced narrowband processing and images based on the SHO or Hubble colour palette.
In the SHO model, the internal solar filter is replaced by the additional narrowband filter. Solar imaging is supported through an external OD 5 solar filter.
App control and integrated image processing
The DWARFLAB app for Android and iOS provides access to functions including:
