Sky-Watcher Evostar 120 with EQ3 Pro SynScan GoTo 120/1000

The Sky-Watcher Evostar 120 with EQ3 Pro SynScan combines a 120 mm achromatic refractor with a motorised equatorial GoTo mount. Its 1000 mm focal length and f/8.3 ratio make it particularly well suited to the Moon, planets and other bright solar-system targets. Computerised object location helps users find targets, while the supplied eyepieces provide a practical start for visual observing.

Optics

The two-element, air-spaced achromatic objective is fully multi-coated. With 120 mm aperture it gathers ample light for detailed lunar craters, Jupiter’s bands, Saturn’s rings and double stars. Like other achromatic refractors, it can show some colour fringing around very bright objects. The 1000 mm focal length gives f/8.3, balancing detail and field of view. The 2-inch focuser and adapter support both 2-inch and 1.25-inch accessories. A DSLR can be attached using a suitable camera ring.

EQ3 Pro SynScan GoTo

Once correctly set up and aligned, the motorised EQ3 Pro SynScan slews to selected targets using its hand controller. The manufacturer specifies a database of more than 42,900 celestial objects and guided tours. This reduces the need to locate every object manually from charts. The equatorial design supports tracking across the sky. The package includes an aluminium tripod and accessory tray, hand controller, motor control box, cables and counterweights. Depending on placement, the motor control box may need to be secured to this tripod with suitable hook-and-loop tape. A compatible power supply is required; batteries and power supply are not included.

Specifications

The 4.7 kg optical tube is within the stated 5 kg visual payload. Include accessories when considering the mount’s load and balance the telescope carefully before observing. Solar viewing requires a correctly secured full-aperture front solar filter; never look at the Sun without a suitable filter.
