What motivates people to spend cold nights outdoors observing the stars? Stern-Freunde presents portraits of 16 dedicated amateur astronomers with varied interests, personalities and life stories. One of them is science journalist and broadcaster Ranga Yogeshwar, who runs his own observatory.
These personal accounts offer an approachable introduction to the many sides of amateur astronomy, from visual observing to hands-on technical projects. The book includes insights and tips that can also inspire readers who are new to the hobby. Its full-colour presentation makes it a thoughtful gift for stargazers.

Choosing this map
This is an engaging gift or source of inspiration for both beginners and experienced observers. It is a portrait book rather than a structured textbook or star atlas; pair it with a practical sky guide for hands-on observing plans.
