Judge magnification realistically

An 800 mm telescope already gives 200x with a 4 mm eyepiece; at 1200 mm it becomes 300x. Such powers are only useful with sufficient aperture, good optics and steady seeing.

Practical note

If unsure, compare with a 5 or 6 mm eyepiece first. Under average conditions, slightly lower magnification often gives a sharper image.
