Skywatcher Evostar 102 OTA – 102 mm refractor for lunar and planetary observing

The Skywatcher Evostar 102 OTA is a conventional achromatic refractor with a 102 mm aperture and 1,000 mm focal length. Its f/9.8 focal ratio is well suited to detailed views of the Moon, planets and other bright Solar System objects. This is an optical tube only, without a mount, for observers who already own a suitable mount or want to build a telescope system around their requirements.

Achromatic optics and observing

The objective is a multi-coated, air-spaced two-element achromat. The combination of a 102 mm aperture and long focal length supports higher magnifications for lunar craters, planets and double stars. As is typical of achromatic refractors, very bright objects may show a slight colour fringe at high magnification. The closed lens tube is quick to set up and does not require collimation like a Newtonian reflector.

For use with a suitable mount

This item includes the optical tube and listed accessories, but no mount or tripod. Before pairing it with existing equipment, check that your mount can safely carry the tube and that the mounting interface is compatible. The 2-inch focuser can accept both 2-inch and 1.25-inch accessories using the supplied adapter. The included 2-inch diagonal provides a comfortable viewing position. With the supplied eyepieces and 1,000 mm focal length, the approximate magnifications are 40× and 100×.
