Sky-Watcher Skyliner 200P FlexTube SynScan: Wi-Fi GoTo Dobsonian

The Skyliner 200P FlexTube pairs a 203 mm Newtonian reflector with a motorised Dobsonian base. Its sliding tube compresses for transport and storage. After alignment, SynScan GoTo can locate selected objects automatically; integrated Wi-Fi also allows control from the SynScan app.

Optics and observing

The parabolic primary mirror gathers light for lunar and planetary observing as well as many star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. The primary and secondary mirrors are made from low-expansion borosilicate glass and use RAQ coatings rated up to 94% reflectivity. Thin 0.5 mm secondary supports keep the obstruction from the spider low.

Tube, mount and controls

The three-strut FlexTube extends and locks for observing, then compresses for storage. The optical tube can be separated from the Dobsonian base. Servo motors move the telescope in altitude and azimuth. Freedom-Find dual encoders allow manual movement without losing the stored alignment. Control is available from the SynScan hand controller or over Wi-Fi with the iOS and Android app. A 12 V DC supply with positive centre contact is required; the power supply and batteries are not included.
