Compact 80 mm achromat for wide-field observing

The SkyWatcher Startravel 80 AZ3 is a compact refractor with an 80 mm aperture, 400 mm focal length and f/5 ratio. Its wide field suits star fields, clusters, bright nebulae and galaxies. The Moon and bright planets can also be observed. For daytime nature viewing, an erect-image prism such as a 45° Amici prism is needed; that prism is optional and is not included in this set.

The manual AZ3 mount moves in altitude and azimuth. Flexible slow-motion controls provide finer movement on both axes. A red-dot finder helps with aiming. The set includes a 1.25-inch diagonal, two Plössl eyepieces (12.5 mm and 26 mm), a 2× Barlow lens and a direct DSLR camera connection. The aluminium tripod has an accessory tray.

Important solar safety

A solar filter is not included. Never point the telescope at the Sun unless a suitable special-purpose filter for direct solar observation is securely fitted over the entire front aperture. Eclipse glasses or an eyepiece filter are not substitutes for a telescope front-aperture filter.
