The TS-Optics TSIR2 is a 2-inch UV/IR-block filter for digital astrophotography. It transmits most of the visible spectrum while blocking ultraviolet and infrared light. This is useful when a camera sensor also records wavelengths that are not brought to the same focus by the telescope, Barlow lens or adapter.

Sharper planetary details

For lunar and planetary imaging, a UV/IR-block filter can make the image look noticeably cleaner. The optical system is concentrated on the part of the spectrum that the camera is intended to use. Fine lunar and planetary structures can therefore appear more defined, while colour fringing and softness caused by unfocused UV or infrared light are reduced. The filter does not improve atmospheric seeing itself; it prevents an additional source of blur in the optical train.

Useful for deep-sky imaging too

When imaging star fields and deep-sky objects, stars can look larger and less precise when infrared light is not controlled. The TSIR2 limits this unwanted range and supports a cleaner star profile. It can be used with colour cameras as well as many monochrome or cooled cameras when an L or UV/IR-block filter is required in the imaging train.

Low-profile cell for compact setups

The low-profile cell is only 4 mm high without the filter thread, which makes it suitable for compact filter wheels and filter drawers. The M48x0.75 male thread fits matching 2-inch adapters and accessories. The finely polished, plane-parallel filter glass is multi-coated and held in a robust aluminium cell.
