254 mm FlexTube Dobsonian with automatic GoTo

The SkyWatcher Skyliner 250P FlexTube SynScan combines a light-gathering 254 mm Newtonian optic with a motorized Dobsonian base. Its 1,200 mm focal length and f/4.7 ratio suit detailed lunar and planetary observing as well as many galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. The supplied 12.5 mm and 20 mm wide-angle eyepieces provide approximately 96× and 60× magnification. Maximum useful magnification is around 508× and depends on atmospheric conditions.

The primary and secondary mirrors use low-expansion borosilicate glass. Their RAQ mirror coating is specified for up to 94% reflectivity. A precision 2-inch Crayford focuser with 1.25- and 2-inch fittings accommodates common eyepieces and accessories. A straight-through 9×50 finder and smartphone adapter are also included.

The computerised Dobsonian base locates objects automatically after alignment. Control it with the SynScan V.6 hand controller or over Wi-Fi using the SynScan app on an iOS or Android device. Freedom-Find dual encoders retain alignment when the telescope is moved manually between GoTo steps. The collapsible FlexTube shortens for transport and extends without a complex truss assembly; a second locking position supports binocular viewers. The optical tube can be separated from the base for carrying.

The mount requires a 12 V DC supply with a centre-positive connector. The power supply and batteries are not included. Because the optical tube and base are large, consider transport and storage space before choosing this telescope.
