GoTo Maksutov Telescopes with Tripod
This category brings together compact Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes supplied with computerised GoTo mounts. The sets vary in aperture, focal length, mount and tripod, ranging from portable instruments to powerful optics with apertures up to 180 mm. Please check each product page for the exact configuration and what is included.

Choosing a GoTo Maksutov telescope
Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes fold the light path to provide a long focal length in a relatively short tube. Their compact form is practical for transport, and the enclosed optical design is well suited to detailed viewing of the Moon, planets and double stars. Long focal lengths show a narrower area of sky, so these instruments are less suited to very wide-field views.
Aperture and focal length
Aperture determines how much light the telescope collects and how much fine detail it can reveal under good conditions. Larger apertures can show more detail on the Moon and planets, but they also need a steadier mount and are usually heavier. A long focal length makes high magnifications easier to reach; useful magnification still depends on atmospheric seeing, collimation, thermal acclimatisation and the eyepiece. A higher-power eyepiece alone cannot guarantee a sharper image.
GoTo mount and setup
Once aligned, a GoTo system can automatically point the telescope towards selected celestial objects. The setup procedure and controls vary by model: some use a hand controller, an app or both. Check the product page for the included controller, power supply and connection options. A smartphone, mains adapter or power bank is not automatically included.
Alt-azimuth mounts move horizontally and in altitude and are often straightforward for visual observing. Equatorial mounts are aligned with the celestial pole and track the apparent motion of the sky around one axis. The right mount depends on how you plan to use the telescope. GoTo functionality alone does not make a mount suitable for long-exposure deep-sky imaging; tracking accuracy, stability and the complete imaging setup matter.
Check the complete set
Products in this category are supplied in different configurations. Compare the optical tube, mount and tripod, then check which eyepieces, finder, diagonal mirror and other accessories are listed for that specific model. Some sets prioritise portability, while others provide a larger aperture or a more substantial mount. The individual product description specifies the contents and power requirements.
Daytime use and useful additions
A standard 90-degree star diagonal gives an upright but laterally reversed view. For a correctly oriented image during terrestrial observing, you need a suitable Amici prism, if one is available for the telescope and eyepiece connection. A diagonal mirror is included only when stated on the product page.
If you already own a mount, consider an optical tube assembly without a GoTo mount. For a manual setup, compare Maksutov sets without GoTo, or browse the full Maksutov telescope category.
